What Defines You?

Sunday night, February 1, 2015, Super Bowl 49 was played in Glendale, Arizona.

Over 114 million people watched the Seattle Seahawks battle the New England Patriots.

So many people watched, that it ranked as the most watched TV show in history. Let that sink in for a minute.

With less than 30 seconds left in the game, the defending champions, the Seattle Seahawks, find themselves down by four points. With the ball on the one-yard line, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson drops back to pass what would be the game-winning, Super Bowl repeating win!

Except…he didn’t.

His pass was intercepted.

The clock hits zero.

Game over.

New England wins 28-24.

So, what’s the first thing Russell tweets to his 1.16 million followers on Twitter?

What the heck? Thank you…God? But wait, look at his next tweet.

Whoa, wait! He tweeted scripture! (By the way, #BVD stands for “Bible Verse Daily”)

What in the world wide web is going on? Russell Wilson just lost the Super Bowl in front one of the biggest TV crowds ever. Regardless of all the amazing plays that led before, most will only remember that Russell Wilson threw a game-ending interception!

Where’s the self-pity?

The bitterness?

The blame?

The drama?

If you know much about Russell Wilson, if you follow him on Twitter, you know he is all about HIM! As in the Great I AM. The Alpha and Omega. Our friend and Savior, Jesus Christ! He plays the game with all he’s got, but he never loses sight that it’s just a game and the real goal is Christ!

He doesn’t let life define him. He lives his life for God and therefore lets that defines him.

The fact is, that at 26 years of age, playing in the Super Bowl, for the 2nd time in two years, losing a heartbreaker of an ending, his first and second responses show the real character of the man that goes beyond anything the game can offer him.

That’s Russell.

The question is what defines you?
